Professor Tony Walton

Tony Walton is a cardiologist based at the Epworth Hospital, with an appointment also at the Alfred Hospital. His training in cardiology was at the Alfred and further post graduate training in interventional cardiology was undertaken at Stanford University Medical Centre in the USA.

He is appointed at The Baker Institute as a Research Fellow and his research interests are recognised by Monash University with his appointment as Associate Professor of medicine. He is Deputy Director of Cardiology and Director of the Cardiac Laboratories at The Alfred

Tony has an extensive experience in coronary angiography and stenting along with use of Rotablator and Shockwave therapy.

He has lead the use of transcatheter heart valve replacement and repair since 2008 when TAVI was introduced to Australia and has performed over 1000 “keyhole” heart valve procedures.

Tony has a strong interest in clinical research and leads the structural heart team at the Alfred with over 200 publications and is appointed at Monash University and is the Principal Investigator for over 15 research trials.
